A Safe and Comfortable Method of Relaxation
Dr. Keith Flack and Dr. Angela Schuck at Mankato Sedation Dentistry offers oral sedation options to help patients remain calm and relaxed. If you normally feel anxious or fearful about visiting the dentist then you may benefit from oral sedation.
Oral Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is a newer method of reducing dental anxiety, but it is becoming increasingly popular among dentists and patients alike. If you choose this sedation option, our doctors will give you a temporary prescription for anti-anxiety medications. You will take the oral medication before coming to the office, and we will provide you comfort amenities to help you to feel relaxed and sleepy. The degree of sedation you experience will depend on your particular dosage. Higher amounts will induce a twilight sleep. Although you will technically be awake and able to respond to questions during treatment, you will typically not remember anything about your procedure when you return home. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery for 24 hours after taking these medications, so you will need to arrange for a ride to and from the office.
Oral sedation options may include:
- Diazepam(Valium)
- Triazolam(Halcion)
- Lorazepam(Ativan)
- Hydroxyzine pamoate(Vistaril)
- Sonata(Zaleplon)
- Flumazenil(Romazicon) benzodiazepine reversal agent
